Why You Need A Content Calendar - CREW DHS

Why You Need A Content Calendar

Our content calendar for July at the bottom of this post!

Everybody and welcome to the digital hustle show. We've got a great episode for you today on content calendars and how that can help your business. I'm Steven with Burkhart creative agency. And this is the crew. I'm the same. I do a lot of video. I'm Jacob. I do the marketing. Hi, I'm Rylynn. I do some editing. So we've been shooting all day today. So this is kind of like we're having some issues. That's okay child. Oh man. What was that doing today? We're going over. Oh, we just recently come up with a content calendar that we're able to help organize and focus ourselves a little bit on what kind of content we want to produce and when we want to put it out there cause obviously we want to be consistent about when we put stuff out there, we want to be intentional about what we're making.

And so we've done a pretty good job of staying on point with the content that we made and who it's for and what it's about. Obviously to help out small business owners medium sized business owners to be able to market their business while using content. And so we wanted to be able to do that for ourselves well, and so it made sense to make a content calendar, which I think everyone should be doing. So yeah. So if you could help help me out here and just kind of walk me through a little bit about why someone would want to make a content calendar kind of, well, let's just start with what it is, right? For those who have never made one before, seen one before and then kind of what is it used for? Was it going to help someone out with it's good to be on the same page?

You know, if there's especially more than one person in any group, you got to know what's going on and when you don't have it visually written down or you don't have, it just explained simply to where you know that you gotta take talks on Tuesday, you got a crew cut cast on Wednesday. If you don't know what's happening, then things don't get done because then it's always up in a cloud and the cloud is always confusing. You know, when you have something up in the air and you're like, Oh, I got to get that done. What is that? You know, like you got to be able to set time for it because if you can take anything professionally, it's going to need time that you're actually requiring and focusing towards it. But that content calendar, it keeps us all on the same page to where if he doesn't post that tech talk, I'm going to be like Steve, it's time to do the take and then she can do the talk.

Okay. Yeah. The way it keeps us all on board and keeps us in the same boat going straight, hopefully. Well, it's true. And as, as a business owner, you're going to be pulled in so many different directions. It's just, it's just too easy to forget. There's just too many fires that has to be put out. But like the chance of you actually remember actually remembering like, Oh, like I needed to post such and such a day. You know what I mean? Like that, you're just going to forget because something's going to come up and require your attention as that's just how it works. You know what I mean? And it's nice having everything done like a month ahead. So that way we're not, Oh my gosh,

Where are we going to put out this week? We're going to put out this week, we have a whole month. And we have like, maybe like a week or two prior where we can get ready for that whole month. And then we can start preparing for that next month. So we're not so stressed about getting everything done.

Right? Yeah. I mean, really the whole idea is what to take for us at least to take the quality of the next level. Because if we give ourselves an entire month to plan, then what we make can potentially be that much more interesting and better and helpful and all those other things. Cause it's actually more thought through. And you don't feel like you're chasing your tail. You know, we, we, we'd been shooting every single week for that really for like the beginning of next week's content. And it's just like, you're like always like having to like come up with an ideas and try to execute on it and try to, you know, call people, make things happen, get locations set up. And it's just a lot to do on a weekly basis, which like we talked about before business owners are busy. So like you can't just necessarily spend all that extra time planning, all those things out every single week.

Yeah. That's that full time job after. Yeah. And also like organizes our thoughts, like are the things that we're planning on doing. And then on top of that, like if we have a set schedule, like of the things that we're posting, people can expect that. And so like if we have, you know, our, our podcasts that go out on Mondays, people know that because that we do that every single week, right. If we have you know, a story about something that we're doing, like every Thursday, people are gonna know that and they're gonna be like, wow, these people are really consistent. It's true in that the chances of you building a following is going to be a lot higher because you're so consistent. It's true. And that's something really we've been learning like just in life. And it's like, especially all the podcasts guests that we have, like that consistency is a word that's just come up over and over and over again.

One might say consistently. And and so it's been like one of those things, like we wanted to make sure that we were like doing our part to like really nail that consistency. Cause at the end of the day, like all the things that we try and do, or like things that like, we not only know are you you're supposed to do, but the things that sometimes are testing on ourselves rather than testing on a client. So that way when, like, when we go and start to do that for a client, like it's not the first time, it's not like we're trying it out. It's not like, we're guessing. It's like, okay, like we have facts. Like when you post every single week, this happens. Like if you don't, this happens, like now we have a chance to actually have like a little bit of an A/B test.

Like where like, Oh, last month we didn't do this this month. Like our content calendar starts in July. Like what's going to happen in July. Like how is that going to look like compared to June and be able to like have some real numbers? I think that's exciting. Definitely. It's also quick when you have it down on paper and stuff, especially since that allows more than one set of eyes to understand what it looks like, people can see and help you just make it more what's that that's efficient. You know, if we, if you see that there's little spots on there where you can do multiple things at once, you instantly knocked out a whole month of, of editing or a whole month of work, whereas you could have all or just consolidating into one day or multiple days, whatever. But it's nice just being able to get everybody in on it, you know?

And then you have multiple heads being able to just have all that extra brain power. You didn't have a second before and everyone can contribute. Cause you can say like, Oh, we need four of this posts fine with this post. And like, now you can actually like, you know, as a business owner, delegating is your biggest asset, especially if you have a good team. So then it's like, okay, if you can actually delegate something because you have like something to quantify what you need, that's super huge because then actually people can help you. Right? So if we want to circle back around a content calendar is essentially like actual calendar where you basically plan out what it is you want to post on every single day. Maybe you don't post every single day. We've chosen to make something for every single day. But you don't have to, you can do two days a week, three days a week, whatever you need to kind of start with to get the ball rolling.

But it was literally having a plan on a calendar to know that like this content is going out at this day. Exactly. and so like for example, one thing that really plays into what you're talking about with efficiency as we know that we wanted to have like inspirational posts on Sunday, that really has nothing to do with what we're doing, but we know that we're serving business owners. And so, you know, there there's Sunday, there are certain to look into what's happening on Monday and we give them a chance to like fuel them up even just for a little bit of like, just like a little bit something to like quick second. Yeah. Just a quick second to be able to re calibrate themselves and get excited about Monday. And so that was intentional. Like we wanted to have something good for people to get pumped up for Monday. So that was an intentional choice that we picked Sundays for that and efficiency. I was able to go through and make every single inspiration post for July and like an hour. And it was super helpful, so much easier. And it's just done. Like, I don't have to worry about it now, like except for scheduling it. Yeah. Which is an efficient use of time.

And it's so much better than just doing it spur of the moment. Yeah. Like, cause I remember back in the day when I was trying to make it like a YouTube video, I'd make it all in that one day and then I'd post it at the end of the day. And by the time I'd posted, be like, you know, eight o'clock at night, no one's home like eight o'clock at night or some people are on, but it's so much more refreshing when you actually are able to get the work done beforehand, like the day before. And you can plan to post that and all you have to do is posted and then you can work on whatever you want to the rest of the day. So you can work on other stuff that way you're not focused on the feedback that you're getting from.

Right. And it really helps with content syndrome, which is what I had for years, like as all about getting the content and then never had a desire to post it. So I've got this ridiculous backlog of photos and videos that I know very, but other people haven't seen ever, and having a content calendar actually forces, you puts a little bit of pressure to where you know that you have to post something. So then you can organize that better and then always just have it ready. But then you have something to do with everything that you're working on have, but also scheduling it to where you're posting that write times and stuff like that as well helps a lot. I mean, I just feel so much better walking in July and knowing we have a plan, you know what I mean? Cause we were posting a lot.

Like we posted a lot of stuff, but just having a little bit better of a plan, it's just, it feels good. Just feels right. So anyways, so anyways, thank you guys so much for watching, hopefully this encourages you to check out different content calendars. There's certainly plenty of places you can grab templates or, or PDF downloads. Have a good start on a content calendar. I think we'll probably share ours. We'll share ours as a link. We made ours in Canva. We just took like a weekly I think it was called like a, like a school schedule calendar or something and Canva. But it was just a simple calendar and we went in, we dropped some stuff in so that way visually we could really check out our week and see like, okay, like we want small business tips to be on Thursday. Boom. And we just drag that in there and show that and that way, at least visually we know what the outline is for the month and those, I think it's going to be really helpful. So check that out for sure. Hopefully that helps you out. And thank you so much for watching the digital hustle show.
